Being A Living Sacrifice

"Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God's mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God—this is your spiritual act of worship. Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will." Romans 12:1-2

Out of gratitude that our sins have been forgiven, God wants us to offer ourselves as "living sacrifices". Being a living sacrifice means daily setting aside our own desires to obey God, putting everything He has given us -- time, money, gifts -- at His disposal and trusting God.

Our refusal to conform to the world should go further than avoid certain worldly activities. It should be firmly planted in our minds because it is possible to avoid most of the corrupt behaviors of the world and still be proud, greedy, selfish, stubborn and arrogant. We should allow God's Word mold not only our activities, but also our thoughts and attitudes. Only when the Holy Spirit renews, reeducates and redirects our minds will we be truly transformed into Christ's image.
